Scroll Saw Arrived!

I finally got my own scroll saw! Hanns Derke of Advanced Machinery, distributor of Hegner scroll saws, was kind enough to set up my saw and show me how to use it. So far, I've mastered blade insertion, and tomorrow I'll graduate to actually cutting my first project. It's a sleek and elegant tool, and marks my transition from "yellow" to "orange".

  1. Break out the champaine. Lots of luck, with the new saw. May all your bowls be round. Or square, or whatever you want them to be....smile. Or should I use the good luck of the theatre and say break a break a leg...

I was woundering if you had ever seen, or tried, to engrave a bowl and fill it with polymer clay. Would there be a problem with the baking? Or maybe even wood filler. I'm most concerned with shrinkage of either part. I've tried burning which works just great. But I thought some color would be a nice addition.

  2. Doug, I just noticed some posts on the SSW&C forum about using polymer clay, so you might check there. The picture of the project that was posted looked really nice. I've been playing with Inlace, the resin you pour into openings, and that also adds color. It's expensive but one container goes a long way. It will appear in my next book in some projects because, as you suggested, some color is a nice addition.

  3. Carole: Thanks for the info. Your suggestion to investigate Inlace was just what I needed. I'd never hear of it but it seems it will be just what I'm looking for. Can't wait to see youe new book. Hurry up!!! smile.
