Four-part video series on sanding scroll saw bowls

Here is the complete four part video series. I've deleted the earlier video posts because of viewing problems. Hope these videos help answer any questions you've had about sanding. If you still have questions, please email me, and I'll be glad to help you out.

Great tutorial! I just bought a used drill press myself. I look forward to trying my first bowl, and hopefully I can find some of the attachments you demonstrated here. Thanks so much again for your wonderful demonstration.

I also thought that you may want to wear more tight fitting clothes around the drill press, as well. I would like to see that since it can be so easy to slip, and have it grab your clothes.

I work in an industrial plant and have seen many injuries from people that have not necessarily been careless, but not fully aware of the hazards. What we have done is created a Job Hazard Analysis. This may be overkill for your work here, but essentially, we look over what jobs we have and how we are to perform the task, and then it forces us to review any safety hazards of what "could" happen and take efforts to remedy the potential hazards.

I would like to see more videos, so stay safe! It can happen to the best of us.

  2. Thanks, James. I appreciate both your enthusiasm, and your concern about safety. I do have a favorite shop sweatshirt, but will heed your advice and make sure that I don't have anything hanging that can get grabbed by a tool.

What a tooper you are to roll out so early in the morning to make us such informative videos, I feel humbbled offering a suggestion, but I find in sanders disc or belt it if I set table just a tad over square (just a little gap at the bottonm the square, the piece will sand square. I noticed this when you sanded the block of wood it sanded more on the bottom than the top, That what happened to me before I tried setting off square. Thanks again for dedication to woodworking we would all be farther along if there were more like you. Keep up the good work.

  4. Bill, I will definitely try your suggestion. Makes no sense logically, but if it works I can calibrate the "off squareness" with my Wixey angle gauge.
